The fourth lesson in The Science of Getting Rich lesson series is the first principle in The Science of Getting Rich. The first three lessons made the point that you have a right and obligation to be rich and that the opportunity for riches is unlimited. Think about that "unlimited opportunity!" and this book was written in 1910! Just look at the opportunities we have now! The Internet along has created and is creating millionaires. The universe truly is expanding!

Here's a quote from Andrew Carnegie: "All Riches and all material things that anyone acquires through self-effort, begin in the form of a clear concise mental picture of the thing one seeks.” What he's saying is all things begin with a thought. And not just any thought but a definite mental image. This is part of the first principle. Wallace Wattles the author of "The Science of Getting Rich" maintained that thought is the only power capable of producing tangible riches from formless substance.

This formless substance was the "stuff" from which all things were made. Further this formless substance is a thinking substance. A thought impressed upon this thinking substance produces the thing imaged. Wallace also believed that a person can form things in his thought and by impressing his thought upon this formless substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created!

Wattles claims to have proven this theory by stating that by reasoning back from the phenomena of form and thought he comes to this thinking substance and reasoning forward from this thinking substance he comes to a person's power to cause the formation of the thing he thinks about. Modern day Quantum Physics supports Wattles' theory. However Wattles makes it clear that it's not necessary to know or even understand how all this happens, just trust on faith that it does.

So the first principle of The Science of Getting Rich is to accept that here is a thinking substance. And that a person by forming a clear and concise mental picture of a thing and by impressing this picture upon the thinking substance cause the thing he thinks about to take form. In the next lesson we will look closer at this thinking substance and how it interacts with the creator and the laws of nature.
